Our History

Gascoyne Pilbara Rangelands Initiative Inc. began in 2009 as Gascoyne Catchments Group Inc. a producer-driven group focused on improving rangeland management across the Gascoyne. Over time, the organisation expanded our activities, led the development of the Rangelands Monitoring Tool, and grew into a trusted regional initiative supporting resilient landscapes and strong pastoral businesses.

Our Mission

We work alongside pastoralists, industry and regional partners to build resilient businesses and healthy rangelands across the Gascoyne and Pilbara. Guided by practical, community-led action and evidence-based learning, we focus on strengthening landscapes, sharing knowledge and supporting a thriving pastoral future.

RMT

The Rangelands Monitoring Tool provides pastoralists with a simple, repeatable way to track landscape condition and support informed management decisions across the Gascoyne and Pilbara. Built from local knowledge and practical field experience, it helps land managers understand change over time and plan with confidence.

“Physical and mental health are important elements for community resilience. Knowing first signs and symptoms, and having knowledge on where professional help may be available is an important skill to have, especially if professional services are several hours away. Joining shared mental health first aid training makes the topic less stigmatised, and opens opportunities to discuss issues easier with peers.”
